Sun Wukong was inspired by the monkey king from Chinese mythology. He is well-known as the cause of turbulence all around including heaven, earth, hell, and also the underworld where he found his weapon, the magical wand. He also symbolized his spiritual journey from an ignorant, enthusiastic monkey to a benevolent, enlightened existence.
